ABOUT US
Sam & John
We are a father and son team of instrument makers.
JOHN
Ever since high school manual arts classes I've always enjoyed working with wood, and have been fascinated all my life with the magical sounds of stringed instruments.
When the opportunity came in 2005 to enroll in a guitar-making course with Albany Luthier Alan Warburton at the local TAFE college I jumped at the chance. First build was a Torres-style classical guitar, which took a very long 18 months to complete, and I then branched out into making mountain dulcimers for friends & family.
In 2007 the Vancouver Arts Centre invited artisans to contribute works for their annual "9x5" Exhibition as a fund-raiser for emerging artists, so I built a replica 9" x 5" Cigar Box Uke, and from that moment I became hooked on making ukuleles.
It's the thrill of stringing up an instrument , the rush of energy one gets when you hear your creation for the first time, which keeps me going in this endlessly joyful pursuit of lutherie.
